Dear Principals and Art Teachers:

The South Florida Hurricane Expo is pleased to announce a Poster Contest.   This new contest will be directed at students currently in K- 5^th grades about the importance of being prepared for the upcoming 2006-hurricane season. All posters submitted will be displayed at the 2006 South Florida Hurricane Expo sponsored by WPTV Channel 5 on April 29 & 30, 2006.

The topic for the contest is:

RULES AND GUIDELINES:

·        Minimum size: 8" x 11". Maximum size: 22" x 28"

·        Any media of drawing material may be used, and students may paste unpublished material (not commercially printed) on their artwork. 

·        Three-dimensional posters will not be accepted.

·        The subject must conform to the topic theme "Hurricane 2006: Be Prepared". The student may include a short written explanation on the poster concerning symbols used.

·        No group project posters. An individual student must create each poster.

·        All entries must have a completed entry form taped to the back of the poster       (the front of the poster must not be signed or labeled):

·        All posters will be judged by the following criteria:

o       Does the poster express the topic theme?

o       Does the poster show originality by the student?

o       Does the poster show artistic merit and creativity?

o       Is the poster neat?

POSTER SUBMISSION

·        Must arrive at:  SFHE Expo, 840 US Hwy One, Suite 330, North Palm       Beach, FL 33408 no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 25, 2006.

·        Pack or wrap posters flat. DO NOT ROLL OR PUT IN TUBES.

·        All entries will be returned to the school by May 25, 2006

·        SFHE reserves the right to modify winning posters for reproduction.

ENTRY FORM

·        Glue or attach the entry form to the back of poster.

·        Type or print clearly.

·        Circle the correct grade level.

AWARDS

·        Elementary students will be divided into 2 age groups:

K - 2^nd grade and 3^rd - 5^th grade.

·        There will a 1^st, 2^nd  & 3^rd place award in each age group.

·        Judging will take place Friday evening. Ribbons will be displayed on 1^st, 2^nd        & 3^rd place posters during Expo.

·        1^st, 2^nd  & 3^rd place will be awarded savings bonds

·        Every participants poster will be displayed and will receive a ribbon
